Adolescent Medicine provides excellent health care to adolescents and young adults ages 11 to 24. We’re particularly sensitive to the needs and concerns of adolescents and are uniquely experienced in providing care to this age group. We’re experts at the medical management of eating disorders and provide complete gynecology services, including pelvic examinations, Pap tests, pregnancy tests, sexually transmitted disease testing, and contraceptive services, including emergency contraception.

We also work closely with an experienced team of pediatric specialists, including psychologists, psychiatrists, nutritionists, and physical and occupational therapists to provide a full range of health care services for our patients.

Developmental Pediatrics

At Developmental Pediatrics, we diagnose and treat children for a wide range of developmental concerns including all types of developmental delays, attention and hyperactivity disorders, learning problems and behavioral issues.

Our physicians are also certified in diagnosing and overseeing treatment for children who need physical rehabilitation services, such as physical or occupational therapy. Because children’s rehabilitation needs can be very different from those of adults, it’s important to have these services provided under the direction of a pediatric clinician.

General Pediatrics

General Pediatric is comprised of New York Medical College faculty who are experts in the health supervision of children from newborn to 21 years of age. The group of 15 board certified physicians are available for urgent care visits as well as periodic health supervision visits as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. We are experienced in the care of healthy newborns, toddlers, school aged children and young adults. In addition, we provide comprehensive office-based care to children with special health care needs and their complex medical conditions.

Neonatal Follow Up Program

We follow babies who may be at risk for developmental, speech and/or growth delays. These babies include, but are not limited to, those born prematurely, those with heart disease, respiratory or neurological problems and those exposed to drugs or alcohol.

For over 25 years, Pediatric Cardiovascular services at the Westchester Medical Center have provided outstanding comprehensive clinical care for infants, children and adolescents from throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond. The opening of the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital (MFCH) at Westchester Medical Center has strengthened those services and now provides an unmatched environment of care for children and their families.

We see about 1,300 children a year for a wide range of pediatric illnesses and injuries.Our physicians are all board-eligible or board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric critical care medicine (PCCM). Our nursing staff has a 25-year history of pediatric critical care experience, and our dedicated respiratory therapy team has extensive experience with pediatric patients who need respiratory support services.

The Pediatric Endocrinology Division of BCHP is one of the largest and most experienced teams in the New York Metropolitan area including the Hudson Valley region. We manage and diagnosis all endocrine and diabetes related conditions in infants, children and adolescents.Our team includes board-certified pediatric endocrinologists, certified nurse practitioners, certified diabetes educators, nurses and support staff. We are all experienced in handling the intricacies of care for complex medical conditions. We provide 24-hour care that includes inpatient and outpatient services for comprehensive, seamless continuity of care.

Boston Children’s Health Physicians’ pediatric gastroenterologists are dedicated to providing comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for children from infancy to adolescence with a wide variety of problems of the gastrointestinal tract, liver or biliary system, as well as children with nutritional disorders. We also strive to educate our patients and their families about their problems as well as training medical students, residents, and fellows in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition.We are fully equipped to perform a number of diagnostic procedures to help make a definitive diagnosis.

Members of the section also serve as the Pediatric Hospitalists at the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. With 24 hour inpatient coverage, these physicians work as a team with the pediatric medical and surgical specialists to provide expert comprehensive care to the children of the Hudson Valley who are referred to Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital with moderate to severe illnesses and complex chronic diseases.

Childhood infections are one of the most common reasons for a parent to bring a child to see a healthcare provider. While the majority of infections are benign and recovery is quick, situations do arise when consultation with a specialist is needed for evaluation of children with recurrent, prolonged, or severe infections. The pediatric specialists in the Infectious Disease and Immunology section assist in the diagnosis and management of children with a variety of known or suspected infections as well as immune deficiencies.

Our pediatric neurology team treats infants, children and adolescents with neurological problems that include epilepsy, seizures, concussions, headaches, Bell’s palsy, movement disorders, muscular dystrophy, craniosynostosis, plagiocephaly, cerebral palsy, sleep disorders, or other problems of the brain, nerves and muscles. In addition, our epilepsy program treats tuberous sclerosis, infantile spasms, Dravet’s syndrome, Lennox- Gastaut syndrome, Rett syndrome and the entire spectrum of childhood epilepsies. The combined use of sophisticated non-invasive testing, in addition to close cooperation with pediatric neurosurgeons and other specialists, enables patients to receive a coordinated approach to all types of neurologic problems. The epilepsy providers participate in clinical trials, multicenter and NIH research. They provide management of the ketogenic diet and treat with epilepsy surgery, including laser ablation, responsive neurostimulation and vagal nerve stimulation. Some of the providers also treat developmental, learning, attention or hyperactivity disorders.

Boston Children’s Ophthalmology offers the latest innovative diagnostics and care for children with a range of vision problems, including low vision pediatric cataracts, glaucoma, strabismus, eye injuries and other pediatric eye conditions. We provide this exceptional care not only in the greater Boston area, but also in the city of Hawthorne in Westchester County, New York.

Our pediatric rheumatologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune diseases, childhood arthritis, musculoskeletal pain disorders and osteoporosis. There are more than 100 types of these diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, lupus, back pain, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia and tendonitis. Some of these are very serious diseases that can be difficult to diagnose and treat.

Psychology and Neuropsychology

The Department of Pediatric Psychology provides psychological services to patients and parents during the child’s hospitalization. The request for services can be made by the doctor or generated by the family. The division sees children and adolescents who are anxious, depressed or overwhelmed with their hospitalization or recent diagnosis. Patients with behavioral difficulties, eating disorders, noncompliance issues and conditions that may be psychogenic in nature are also seen.

Speech-Language Pathology

The Division of Speech and Language Pathology provides comprehensive speech-language evaluations for pediatric clients of all ages, from infants through teens, as well as adults, and provides individualized treatment for speech-language delays and disorders.
